TYLER – The members of the North East Texas Regional Mobility (NET RMA) met Wednesday and awarded Judge Bill Stoudt’s proposal on behalf of Gregg County with $400,000 as the first recipient of its annual Priority Project Program. The money goes to Gregg County’s proposal for the reconstruction and improvements to the U.S. 259 and Hawkins Parkway intersection in northeast Longview. The proposal is a partnership involving the City of Longview, Gregg County, and TxDOT.
NET RMA officials say the significance of the project is great as U.S. 259/U.S. 59/Interstate 69 connects northeast Texas to the Gulf Coast region; officials say that makes it vital for the region’s ties to the oil and gas industry. Additionally, the project promotes regional economic development and this enhancement will allow for both residential and commercial development along the US 259 and Hawkins Parkway corridor, according to an NET RMA news release.
