Road Check 2016 Starts TodayTYLER — For three days starting Tuesday, state troopers around Texas will be taking part in Roadcheck 2016. It’s an enforcement effort that will be taking place across North America. State trooper Jean Dark of Tyler says the object of the intensified commercial vehicle inspections is to increase motor carrier, vehicle, driver and cargo safety and security. The DPS will be looking for commercial vehicles, including buses, with serious equipment violations and drivers out of compliance with state and federal requirements.

Last year in Texas, the law enforcement agencies inspected 7,865 commercial vehicles. They found about 22% of the vehicles had serious violations that required the truck or bus be placed out of service until repairs could be made. Inspectors also placed 212 drivers out of service for various violations, including driving over the maximum number of hours and failing to have the proper type of driver license for the vehicle being driven.
