Tyler’s Unemployment Continues to Be Low

Texas Workforce CommissionEAST TEXAS – Tyler’s unemployment rate continues to be better that the state and national numbers. Tyler’s April unemployment rate was 4.1% That is down from the 4.3% rate in March and is the same as April of last year. Longview had a 5.4% unemployment rate last month, which is the same as the March figure and just over one 1% higher than March, 2015. The Texas unemployment rate in April was 4.4%, up slightly from the March figure. The national unemployment rate is 5%.

Texas employers expanded their payrolls in April with the addition of 8,300 seasonally adjusted non-farm jobs. The state has added jobs in 12 of the last 13 months. Commission figures show Amarillo had the lowest unemployment rate in Texas last month at 2.7%, followed by the Austin-Round Rock area. The state’s highest jobless rate for April was at 7.2% in the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area.
