Smith County Sheriff Offers Take on West Findings

TYLER — Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith weighs in on the outcome of the West fertilizer plant explosion. Before he became Sheriff, Smith worked more than 20 years as a certified fire investigator for the A-T-F. Smith says he knows from talking to some of the people involved that there has been a “great amount of research where they reconstructed part of this at the fire research laboratory.” Smith says officials were able to reach a conclusion after going through numerous hypotheses. Officials announced Wednesday that the blast resulted from arson.
