TYLER — This is the final week week of the Smith County-Wide Cleanup. Through vouchers, which are obtained at the constable and JP offices,as well as the county annex building on East Ferguson, county residents can take large items to the Greenwood Farms Landfill for free. And it looks like the program is a big success. Smith County Litter Abatement Officer Tommy Goodman says through last Friday, vouchers were responsible for over 163 tons of solid waste taken to the Greenwood Farms Landfill for free.
With the use of the vouchers, county residents can take 3 cubic yards of solid waste, which fills the bed of a regular sized pickup to the landfill. The vouchers will be good for 6:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday and 6:30am to noon on Saturday.
With the vouchers, you can take everything from tree trimmings to furniture to the landfill. Not not all items will be accepted. Items the landfill will not accept include hazardous waste, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, gasoline, oils, paint, acid, batteries, Asbestos, wet paint, Freon, whole tires, televisions, computers, refrigerators and freezers.
