Lufkin Police Arrest Robbery SuspectLUFKIN — Lufkin Police didn’t have trouble locating a robbery suspect. he was already in jail. A warrant for aggravated robbery was served Thursday evening to George Ray Holmes, 47, at the Angelina County Jail. He had been arrested earlier that morning on a warrant for evading arrest following an investigation into a stolen vehicle. The car matched the description of one seen on surveillance video leaving Subway Sunday night following a robbery. The suspect was arrested after fleeing the vehicle after a Lufkin patrolman spotted him.

An officer patrolling 4th Street late Wednesday night spotted the vehicle, driven by a black male in a white shirt, and attempted to make a traffic stop. By the time the officer turned around, the man had abandoned the car, leaving the driver’s-side door open. The officer noticed a pair of slippers stuck in the mud nearby.

Hours later, another officer saw a black male wearing a white shirt and no shoes walking along Timberland Drive. The officer stopped the man, later identified as Holmes, and found that he had a warrant for evading arrest.

A search of the stolen vehicle uncovered a pair of gloves, one with a revolver inside. During the robbery, Holmes allegedly concealed the gun inside what the teenage worker described as a sock after giving her a note that read “Give me all the money in the register or I will kill you, then kill myself because I’m not going back to prison.”

Holmes remains in the Angelina County Jail today.
