A Lengthy Prison Term for Sexual Assault of a Child

GILMER — A former Upshur County resident will be serving a prison term for the sexual assault of a child. Jamie Richard McCammon, II, 40, who most recently lived in Mississippi, has pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and 2 counts of Indecency with a child by contact. He received a 30 year prison sentence and 2, 15 year prison sentences, all of which will be served concurrently. He will have to serve at least half of his sentence before he will ever even be considered for parole. If and when he is released, McCammon will have to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.The charges against McCammon stem from incidents that date back to 2004. The investigation began after a boy told a camp preacher, shortly after a youth church function, what had happened.
