One Arrested Following Nacogdoches County Chase

NACOGDOCHES — A high speed chase has led to the arrest of a Nacogdoches man. The chase started just before 7:00 Monday night on County Road 521. It ended, after speeds of over 100 miles an hour, near the county line where County Road 659 loops back into highway 59 South. Taken into custody, with out further incident was Christopher Rey Galvan, 24. He was charged with a variety of offenses, including evading arrest. At the time of his arrest, was out of jail awaiting trial on 9 different charges.
Sheriff’s deputies were responding to a call of shots fired when they saw a suspicious car leaving the area. That’s when the chase began. A deputy attempted to use spike strips to deflate the tires of the suspect vehicle at County Road 525 near the intersection of Highway 59 south. The suspect vehicle eluded the spike strips and turned his vehicle toward the deputy.
The suspect then turned onto highway 59 and went south bound. The vehicle continued to travel down highway 59 south and made a quick turn onto County Road 659. A deputy in the pursuit lost control of his vehicle as the suspect vehicle turned onto County Road 659 and struck an electric pole. He suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at a Nacogdoches hospital.
Deputies were later able to capture the suspect.
He has been charged with possession of controlled substance Felony, evading arrest and detention, tampering and fabricate with physical evidence, obstruction or retaliation and driving while license invalid. During the arrest, it was found that Galvan was in possession of methamphetamine and found in his car was a holster and magazine. Authorities search the area looking for a gun he may have tossed from the vehicle.
At the time of the arrest Galvan was out of jail on bonds of $230,000 awaiting trial on 9 different charges. His bond on the current charges top $4 million.
Sheriff Deputies also arrested a family member of Galvan at the scene. Mary Veliz,43, was arrested after showing up at the scene. Deputies say Veliz continued to interfere with their investigation after she was told to leave the scene several times. Veliz also failed to identify herself to deputies. Veliz was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail for Interfere with the public duties of a peace officer and failure to identify.
