A Proclamation Targeting Mosquitoes

mosquitoJACKSONVILLE — Cherokee County Judge Chris Davis has issued a proclamation to area residents, hoping to unite the county against mosquito-borne diseases such as the Zika Virus. Judge Davis said, while there are no current cases in the county, public health officials want to keep it that way. The proclamation calls for county residents to take such actions as removing standing water and eliminating potential standing water sources. Judge Davis noted that in order to keep the spread of Zika Virus at bay, it will require the community working together.

The Zika Virus is now linked to microcephaly potentially other damaging fetal brain defects. He encouraged residents to take precautions now. According to Christopher Taylor, the Cherokee County Public Health Departmentç—´ Executive Director, å…¸he single most important preventive step that can be taken is to remove all current and potential standing water sources in an effort to eliminate the breeding of the Aedes species mosquito.
