Services Set For Tyler Artist Dick JohnsTYLER — Graveside services will be held Tuesday for Tyler artist and author Dick Johns. Johns, who was 86, died Friday. Johns was a commercial illustrator, known particularly for his portraits done in a pointillist style called “stipple” in which areas of dark and light are created by changing the spacing between small points of ink. For many years, Johns’s art was used by KTBB in its sales and promotional materials.

Johns is a Tyler native who served in the Korean War. While employed at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, Johns produced the engineering illustrations used in the assembly and documentation of the B-36 and B-58 bombers. He is the author of three novels and was a contributing editorial cartoonist for the Dallas Morning News.

Graveside service will be 2:00 Tuesday afternoon at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 2003 Blue Mountain Boulevard in Tyler. It will be under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
