Ricky Neal’s Murder Conviction Upheld

Ricky Neal JrTYLER — The 12th Court of Appeals in Tyler has upheld the murder conviction of a Tyler man in a slaying over three years ago. The court affirmed the conviction of 28 year old Ricky Neal Jr. He was convicted in the February, 2013 slaying of Chapel Hill football and basketball player Chris Mass. He was shot to death in the parking lot of the Broadway Square Mall. The shooting was over a dispute that started on Twitter. During his 2014 trial in 7th District court, Neal said he shot Mass because he was afraid and felt threatened by him, even though he did not see a gun. After convicting him of murder, the jury sentenced to life in prison.
