Jailer Arrested for Sexual Contact with Inmate

VAN ZANDT — A Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office jailer is fired and arrested after officials discovered he was having “relations” with an inmate. Steven Barker, 22, Wills Point, was arrested Wednesday for sexual contact with a person in custody. During the investigation, it was determined Barker was having an improper relationship with a female inmate by writing letters and discussing “hooking up” when she was released. The female inmate admitted to having sexual contact with Barker. He’s being held at the Van Zandt County Jail pending arraignment for a state jail felony with a recommended bond of $50,000.
