DWI Suspect Arrested Following Scuffle

PALESTINE – A drunk driving suspect, Edgar Najera of Palestine, has been arrested after he allegedly struggled with a Palestine police officer. It started with an early Sunday evening report of a pickup running over a curb and driving erratically. A Palestine officer tried to stop the vehicle, but it failed to halt until it stopped at a residence in the 1300 block of North Conway. When the 26 year old driver failed to follow the officers orders, he tried to arrest the man. Police say the man had to be taken to the ground before he could be handcuffed.

Najera was transported to Anderson County Jail, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated, 3rd or more; evading arrest/det w/ vehicle; resist arrest, search or transportation; fail to identify, fugitive from justice. The suspect was also arrested on an outstanding probation violation warrant out of Anderson County.
