Proposed Longview Road Project Halted

LONGVIEW – A proposed Longview road project is being scrapped over community objections. Improvements to U.S. Highway 259 at Eden Drive and Tryon Road in Longview are being halted after comments from a March 17th open house-style public meeting revealed a lack of public support for the proposed project. The Longview Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said no changes will be made to the intersection.

Residents provided input and recommendations to three proposed U.S. Highway 259 at the March meeting. During the two-week public comment period following the open house, 284 comments were received by mail, email and in person. There were 44 comments received in favor and 240 against the project.

According to Karen Owen, the Transportation Planning Manager for the City of Longview, “Based on citizen feedback and the lack of public support, we will not proceed with any improvements to the U.S. 259 at Eden Drive and Tryon Road intersection.”
