New Stop Signs Up in Tyler

TYLER – New stop signs have gone up in Tyler. The City of Tyler Traffic Department installed the stop sign Monday at the intersection of North Bonner Avenue and West Oakwood Street. Motorists are not use to the new signs and some have been reported running them. The new stop signs will have orange flags on top of them for several weeks to get drivers accustomed to the new multi-way stop. Besides installing stop signs, crews also placed stop bars and other pavement markings around the intersection.
Peter Eng, Tyler Traffic Engineer, said the five-way intersection has always been a problem because of its complex geometry. “There are inadequate sight distances for Oakwood approaches due to the horizontal and vertical curvatures south of the intersection. An all-way stop would enhance safety for pedestrians and drivers alike and will also reduce potential accidents.”
