TYLER — Tyler fire crews responded to a report of a house fire around 9:00 Thursday night that left a family of four displaced. Officials said the blaze was contained to the bedroom of the home at 3306 Luberta Street. Investigators determined that the fire was caused by a space heater plugged into an extension cord.
The Fire Department reminds residents to use caution and keep safety in mind when dealing with electrical appliances. Major appliances should always be plugged directly into a wall receptacle outlet. Extension cords should never be used for this purpose. Additionally, it is recommended that citizens only plug one heat-producing appliance into a receptacle outlet at a time. Residents are also reminded to make sure they have an adequate number of operable smoke alarms installed in their homes at all times.
