EAST TEXAS – Drivers continue to face numerous challenges throughout East Texas following storm activity this past weekend and earlier in the month. Officials said Tuesday that Road and Bridge crews are working to repair several roads throughout Smith County that were damaged by this month’s storms. County Engineer Frank Davis urges drivers not to cross roads that still have high water over them, especially if they are barricaded.
Smith County roads damaged from weekend rains include the following:
CR 448 (pictured) by Sky Ranch was washed out and needs repair.
Culverts that have to be ordered could take longer to come in since some of the vendors are closed for the holidays, Davis said.
County Road 415, in the New Harmony area, needs a culvert replaced; Road and Bridge has the pipe in stock.
County Road 419, just south of Interstate 20, now has half of the road open and is passable. Davis said although the road is drivable, officials have to reorder the culvert to replace it.
CR 434, one mile north of I-20 by Hideaway Lake, needs a culvert replaced; the pipe will have to be ordered and may take two weeks to come in, Davis said.
CR 2188, off Farm-to-Market Road 2964, outside of Whitehouse, has a culvert washed out; Road and Bridge has the pipe in stock.
Roads damaged from December 12-13 storms include:
CR 424, off Highway 110 and north of I-20, has a culvert washed out and Road and Bridge is awaiting delivery of the pipe, which Davis said would be in sometime after January 1, 2016.
CR 235, east of Tyler, off of FM 850 and CR 26, has a culvert washed out and the pipe is in stock. Davis said CR 26 washed out at the same time but has already been repaired.
