TYLER — UT Health Northeast achieved another significant milestone with the announcement by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) that it has conferred accreditation on the university medical center. According to a UT Health Northeast news release, SACSCOC was founded in 1912, and is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting colleges and universities in the southern United States including Texas. UT Health Northeast president Dr. Kirk Calhoun says the accreditation has “long been a goal” of the institution. UT Health Northeast’s School of Medical Biological Sciences began offering a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology three years ago as part of UT Health’s SACSCOC candidacy status.
