LONGVIEW — A Longview High School student was arrested Wednesday after police reportedly found a revolver in his backpack at school, but officials say the student himself informed a teacher about the gun after realizing he was carrying it. KETK reports police were alerted to the case just before 10:15 Wednesday morning. Officers say they were able to locate the student quickly and secure the backpack. Jacorian Hermon Harris, 17, was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place.
Longview ISD released the following statement Thursday: “A young man at Longview High School was in possession of a firearm yesterday. The student realized he had the gun in his backpack and informed a teacher. The teacher then reported the firearm to the student resource officers. The firearm was confiscated and the student was arrested. The school, in cooperation with the Longview Police Department, launched an immediate investigation. The gun was never used in a manner to threaten others. No one was harmed and no incident occurred. The student will be suspended at this time pending a hearing, per state law.” Harris was booked into the Gregg County Jail and released on $10,000 bond.
