TYLER — It’s a special year as the East Texas State Fair gets underway Friday in Tyler, with the big event celebrating its 100th anniversary. The fair runs through October 4th. From the exhibits to the carnival, free concerts, and of course the fair food, there is something for all the family. Tickets are still $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children under 12. Go to http://www.etstatefair.com for more information, including a schedule of activities.
Police are again issuing a traffic advisory for the fair. Drivers are advised that on West Front Street in front of Harvey Convention Center, traffic will be shut down to one lane in both east and west directions Friday (Senior Citizen Day) from 8:00 a.m. until midnight. After Friday all lanes will be open until 4:00 p.m. each day, and then the traffic will revert back to one lane of traffic flow in each direction until closing time of the fair.
Tyler police encourage everyone crossing West Front to cross at the approved crosswalk in front of the main gate. Officers will provide traffic control at this crosswalk for your safety. You’re asked to use extreme caution in this area due to the large volume of pedestrian traffic and officers directing traffic in the street. Drivers not attending the Fair on Friday and after 4:00 p.m. each other day may consider taking an alternate route.
