TYLER — The city of Tyler has just come up with a way to alleviate the heartbreak of losing a dog. According to a news release, with approximately seven million dogs lost every year, Tyler Animal Services is integrating with Finding Rover in an effort to reunite families with their pets. Using facial recognition technology, Finding Rover is a free social media app that is just a download away, according to city officials.
Pet owners upload a picture of their dog onto the Finding Rover website. If their dog ever gets lost and is found by a participating shelter or good Samaritan who uploads a photo of the found dog onto Finding Rover, the pet owner will receive information on how to be reunited with the lost pet. This service is creating a faster reunion time than placing posters on telephone poles, according to the release.
Every dog that is adopted from the Tyler Animal Shelter will be pre-registered in the Finding Rover database and can be easily transferred to the new owner. If you would like more information about Finding Rover, contact Tyler Shelter Manager Shawn Markmann at (903) 508-7467 or visit the Animal Shelter at 3393 W. Grande Blvd.
