AUSTIN — Tea party Republicans, including an East Texan, are coming to the defense of indicted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Paxton is facing three felony charges for securities fraud. State Representative Bryan Hughes (pictured) of Mineola says, “I know his character. I know he tells the truth. I’m very comfortable…speaking in support of him.” Hughes, now a state Senate candidate, doesn’t think this is a Republican attack. He says “that the indictment was driven by the liberal group Texans for Public Justice. I mean, they’ve even taken credit for it…they’ve crowed about it.”
