Normal Traffic Flow Resumes Following Hwy 64 WreckTYLER — Two-way traffic resumed by mid-morning Thursday on Highway 64 West near Tyler Pounds Regional Airport. Vehicles had previously been prohibited from passing through the scene of an early morning accident in the area. Utility crews continued work to restore power in the vicinity, according to city officials. Airport Manager Davis Dickson said he did not expect any further delays at the airport.

DPS troopers, Smith County officials, and emergency personnel headed to the scene of the wreck. According to KETK, five homes and a daycare on Highway 64 West and Country Road 1147 were evacuated after a driver lost control and hit a utility pole around 7:30. ONCOR and CenterPoint Energy were assisting with downed power lines and a possible gas leak. Numerous residents were left without power. Fliers were advised to allow plenty of time to get to the airport until the accident scene was cleared. No word on any injuries and the cause of the wreck is unknown.
