TxDOT Road ProjectsTYLER – Here’s a look at work planned in the district during the Week of June 8. These schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues.

SMITH COUNTY – Tyler Maintenance are placing an overlay on Farm Road 1805 between Farm Road 1253 and the Van Zandt County line. Tyler’s second crew will be assisting in Van Zandt County making repairs on Farm Road 2475. Both jobs will reduce the roadway to one lane with flaggers controlling traffic.

Smith County construction projects update:

Loop 323 Widening
*Limits: Tyler’s West Loop and SH 31
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd.
*Cost: $12 million
This is a widening and bridge replacement project. The contractor is currently working on the bridge abutments. No lane closures are planned but motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone.

The project includes widening Loop 323 from State Highway 31 to Shaw Street. The speed limit on Loop 323 in the work zone has been reduced to 45 mph from State Highway 64 to Shaw Street. The completion date is early 2016.

State Highway 31East Widening Project
*Limits: From FM 757 to FM 1639
*Contractor: Reynolds & Kay, LTD
*Cost: $7.8 million
Culvert and embankment work in the eastbound lanes continue as weather permits on this project to add passing lanes for multiple sections of roadway in both the eastbound and westbound directions. Once the widening is complete, a seal coat and final surface will be applied. Motorists should expect delays and shoulder closures as wells as a daily construction speed limit of 60 mph when work is being performed on this 18-month job.

State Highway 31East Widening Project
*Limits: From FM 850 to FM 757
*Contractor: East Texas Bridge, Inc.
*Cost: $3.4 million
This portion of SH 31E from FM 850 east of Tyler to FM 757 is also being widened to add passing lanes for multiple sections of the roadway in both directions. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes to reach their destinations as a seal coat is applied to the roadway during the next week. Expect lane closures to cause delays. The project should be completed this summer.

Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: County Road (CR) 46 at Prairie Creek Tributary
*Contractor: East Texas Bridge, Inc.
*Cost: $490,000
CR 46 remains closed while the outdated bridge is replaced. Currently, dirt work continues. The contractor expects to lay hot mix bridge approaches soon followed by application of the final surface. Motorists must use alternate routes to reach their destinations. The work is expected to be completed and the roadway opened to traffic in early summer, weather permitting.

Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: County Roads (CR) 452 and 481
*Contractor: Pierce Construction
*Cost: $560,000
These roads are closed to through traffic and both existing bridges are being removed. Motorists must use alternate routes to reach their destinations. The work is expected to be completed and the roads opened to traffic in October 2015.

State Highway 64
*Limits: from Chapel Hill to Arp
*Contractor: Drewery Construction
*Cost: $3.9 million
TxDOT is asking motorists to use extra caution and watch for flaggers providing traffic control when traveling through this work zone. The Super 2 widening project continues and consists of clearing and grading. Dirt work is being performed from CR 299 to just west of Arp where the work zone speed limit is 60 mph. The daily speed zone reduction is posted when workers are present. Expect lane closures.

Farm Road 850 Resurfacing Project
*Limits: 0.445 miles southeast of FM 2607 to the Rusk County line in Overton
*Contractor: Drewery Construction
*Cost: $2.1 million
Seal coat operations are being conducted on this job this week. The project consists of resurfacing the roadway by placing an overlay from FM 2607 to SH 135 in Overton. Expect lane closures to result in delays so use alternate routes if possible.

GREGG COUNTY – Longview crews are continuing mill and inlay work on U.S. Highway 259North between Farm Road 1844 and the Gregg/Upshur county line. Work is planned for both the northbound and southbound lanes for the next few weeks. Expect lane closures.

Gregg County construction projects update:
Interstate Highway 20 Total Maintenance Contract Mill and inlay operations will start soon on I-20 throughout Gregg County. The work will take at least two weeks to complete and will impact all travel lanes but only one lane at a time. Motorists should expect delays and when possible use other routes to reach their destinations.

State Highway 31 Landscape Project
*Limits: 0.3 miles north of FM 2205 (Grace Creek) to 0.2 miles south of U.S. 80 (Cotton) in Longview
*Contractor: South Texas Illuminations, LLC
*Cost: $281,249.70
Work is under way but should not impact traffic. The project comes as a result of the city winning one of 10 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards presented by Keep Texas Beautiful through its partnership with TxDOT, which allocates $2,000,000 a year as landscape incentives to competing communities based on population. Landscape incentives are given for outstanding work in areas of litter prevention and cleanup, public awareness, beautification and property improvement, solid waste management, illegal dumping and enforcement and education.
Farm Road 2275 George Richey Extension (Segments II & III)
*Limits: McCann Road to U.S. 259
*Contractor: East Texas Bridge, Inc.
*Cost: $12.8 million
The contractor continues clearing between Judson and Airline roads. Excavation, embankment, bridge construction, subgrade treatment, storm drain and other work is ongoing between McCann and Judson roads. This is new location construction work and is not expected to impact traffic.

Loop 281 at FM 2087 Overpass
*Limits: SH 31 to approximately one mile south of SH 31
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd.
*Cost: $13.2 million
This project is in Phase III of construction with traffic moved off the existing loop onto the detours. The contractor is currently placing bridge deck panels in preparation of pouring the bridge deck. Other work includes building a temporary earth retaining wall, the bridge headers and storm drain. Traffic can expect some delays during the peak evening hours. Caution advised during travel through this work zone.

State Highway 42
*Limits: From SH 31 north to I-20
*Contractor: Reynolds & Kay, Ltd.
*Cost: $3.7 million
Construction is anticipated to resume soon. Work has been on hold as details for a turn lane at Hillcrest Road are updated. When it resumes, the contractor will be conducting more curb and gutter and guardrail work. Drivers can expect minimal impacts at this time. Nighttime operations could be implemented on this job at some point.

I-20 Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
*Locations
* East of FM 1255 westbound – Van Zandt County
*West of FM 849 eastbound – Smith County
*Derrick Park westbound – Smith County
*Contractor: Highway Intelligent Traffic Solutions Corp. The contractor has installed these signs and is currently testing them. There is little impact to traffic as this project moves toward completion.

ANDERSON COUNTY – Maintenance crews in Palestine continue to prepare roads for the summer seal coat program and address other maintenance issues around the county. Expect lane closures.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Anderson County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on U.S. Highway 84 and State Highway 323. Expect lane closures.

Anderson County construction project update:
Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: County Road (CR) 453 at Beaver Creek
*Contractor: Highway 19 Construction of Sulphur Springs, Texas
*Cost: $256,312.87
CR 453 is closed at Beaver Creek and work is under way to build the new bridge. Motorists must use alternate routes to reach their destinations. This project will be completed in July.

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Jacksonville and Rusk maintenance crews will be conducting base repairs on roadways throughout the county. A crew will also assist with work on Farm Road 47 in Van Zandt County. Watch for work zone signage and flaggers to provide traffic control. Lane closures are possible.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Cherokee County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on State Highway 110. Expect lane closures.

HENDERSON COUNTY – Athens Maintenance crews are overlaying Farm Road 607 between Loop 60 and Farm Road 804, and addressing drainage issues around the county. Expect lane closures.

Henderson County construction project update:
U.S. Highway 175 Widening Project
*Limits: 0.1 miles southeast of FM 804 near Baxter southeast to 1.1 miles east of Loop 60E at Larue
*Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc. and Big Creek Construction
*Cost: $39.2 million
The projects will expand U.S. Highway 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway with a depressed median. Construction of this Phase I project started April 6, 2015 and has an expected completion date of November 2018.

Farm Road 317 Widening Project
Big Creek Construction is dressing up slopes along this FM 317 widening project from FM 314 to FM 607. Expect lane closures.

RUSK COUNTY – Henderson Maintenance is progressing with the mill and inlay operations staying on State Highway 43 from Farm Road 1251 to Farm Road 2658. Expect traffic to be reduced to one lane carrying two-way traffic controlled with a pilot car.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Rusk County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on Farm Road 225, State Highway 14, State Highway 1498 and U.S. Highway 79. Expect lane closures.

Rusk County construction project updates:
State Highway 64 Widening Project
*Limits: 0.173 miles west of BU 64E (N. Marshall St.) east to 0.2 miles west of U.S. 79 (Traffic Star)
*Contractor: Lonestar Equipment Company, Inc.
*Cost: $2.1 million
Motorists should expect periodic delays on this SH 64 construction project in Henderson as the contractor works to widen the roadway. Construction of the retaining wall continues. The traffic signal at N. Marshall St. has been removed and Stop Signs installed. The signal at Mill St. will remain but will be upgraded.

This project started in August 2013 and consists of widening the existing two-lane roadway and constructing a four-lane facility along with a continuous Left Turn Lane with the majority of work being performed outside the existing travel lanes. It is expected to be completed in late summer 2015.

U.S. Highway 84 Resurfacing Project
*Limits: From 2.3 miles west of Farm Road 3055 east to 0.24 miles west of U.S. Highway 259 in Mt. Enterprise
*Contractor: Drewery Construction
*Cost: $1.07 million
This contractor is in the process of placing a new overlay surface on this project. Weather conditions could stretch the time necessary to complete the work. Motorists can expect delays during daytime hours as traffic control includes reducing the roadway to one lane. Slow down and be prepared to stop in this work zone.

VAN ZANDT COUNTY – Canton Maintenance crews are conducting maintenance in preparation of summer seal coat, including base and edge repairs and placing an overlay on Farm Road 316. With help from co-workers at Jacksonville Maintenance, the same work will be performed on Farm Road 47 between State Highway 243 and Interstate Highway 20. A crew from Tyler Maintenance will also be assisting by making base and edge repairs and placing an overlay on Farm Road 2475 between Farm Road 47 and Lake Tawakoni State Park. Expect daytime lane
closures.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Van Zandt County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on State Highway 19 north and south of Canton as well as on SH 64 north of Canton. Expect lane closures.

Van Zandt County construction projects update:
Off-System Bridge Replacement Projects
*Locations:
*County Road (CR) 2702 at Lacy Fork Tributary
*County Road (CR) 2129 at Flat Creek
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd.
*Cost: $1.02 million
Both roads are now open to the public with the contractor currently doing general clean up and seeding.

State Highway 198 Widening Project
*Limits: from SH 243 in Canton southwest to 0.4 miles northeast of FM 316 near Phalba
*Contractor: Big Creek Construction, Ltd.
*Cost: $5 million
Culvert work continues on this widening project. Expect lane closures.

Farm Road 314 Widening Project
*Limits: from I-20 to the Van Zandt/Henderson County line
*Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc.
*Cost: $11.9 million
The installation of driveway pipe north of SH 64 continues. Work to rebuild the roadway from Edom to the Henderson County line is underway. Expect lane closures.

WOOD COUNTY – Mineola Maintenance crews continue to prepare roadways for summer seal coat operations including placing a hot mix overlay on State Highway 11 from Winnsboro east toward the Camp County line. Crews are also placing an overlay on State Highway 154 east of Quitman near Liberty Church. Base repairs are being performed on numerous roadways including Farm Road 14 at the Wood/Smith county line; on Farm Road 3530; and Farm Road 2659 near Farm Road 2911. Expect lane closures at each of these locations.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Wood County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on U.S. Highway 80. Expect lane closures.

Wood County construction project update:
State Highway 37 Roadway Repair
*Limits: from FM 2088 in Quitman to 0.4 miles south of FM 515 in Winnsboro
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd.
*Cost: $7.7 million
The contractor this week is placing a seal and overlay on this project. Expect lane closures.
