Troup-Area Homeowner Shoots Reported Intruder

CHEROKEE COUNTY — An East Texas man was hospitalized after officials say he broke into a house and was shot by the owner. It happened around 8:30 Tuesday morning on County Road 4808, several miles south of Troup. According to KETK, the homeowner said a man had broken into her house and she shot him. She said the her husband had the man detained until deputies arrived. The suspect was taken to a Tyler hospital. The suspect is said to be in stable condition. Charges will be filed through Cherokee County for burglary of a habitation with intent to commit assault. The names of the homeowner and attacker are not being released at this time.
