Tyler ISD Welcomes Inter-District Transfer Students

Posted/updated on: April 23, 2015 at 3:44 pm

TISD Admin Sign1TYLER — Tyler ISD will begin accepting inter-district transfer students, or students who live outside designated Tyler ISD school zones, beginning with the 2015-2016 school year. Chief Student and Support Services Officer Ken Vaughn explains that inter-district transfers give parents and guardians more options for education that range from being able to attend a school closer to their home or having the option to choose a school that best fits the learning style. “Tyler ISD is a desirable option for parents who reside outside the Tyler ISD attendance boundary for many reasons, ranging from logics to academics. Previously, parents who requested admission to Tyler ISD were denied access to the excellent educational programs that are offered in the District.”

Inter-district transfers also help accommodate families who purchase new homes within the district lines that are under construction or who move out of the district but want to finish out the semester. In this case, a student who becomes a non-resident during the course of a semester would be able to complete the semester if they satisfy qualifications and space is available.

Applications for inter-district transfer for the 2015-2016 school year will be accepted by the Tyler ISD Student and Support Services office through the end of the year, and acceptance into the District will be based on a case-by-case basis. For school years thereafter, the standard application deadline will be April 1 or 30 days within relocating to the Smith County area. Inter-district transfer approvals will be valid for one year only and renewals must be submitted each year.

It is important to note that all University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules regarding student eligibility for competition events will be followed and transfers will not be granted for athletic purposes only. According to UIL rules, transfer students are ineligible for varsity competition for one year after the transfer. Students who participate in UIL athletics must verify their eligibility through the Tyler ISD athletic director.
