thumb_Kilgore_CollegeKILGORE — Kilgore College has received the written report from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) committee that visited KC and Hallsville High School in February to review KC’s offerings at HHS. The committee’s report contains no recommendations and KC is not required to provide any further information to the commission, according to A KC news release. “These results are the best possible outcome that we could have hoped for and we appreciate the commitment of Hallsville ISD to providing a quality dual credit program for its students,” said Dr. Staci Martin, vice president of institutional planning. “We look forward to continuing our excellent partnership with Hallsville ISD.”

During the visiting committee’s exit meeting with KC administrators in February, the committee praised the collaborative relationship between KC and Hallsville ISD. The committee reviewed various areas such as faculty/administrative qualifications, library/learning resources, institutional effectiveness, student services and physical resources.

SACSCOC requires that colleges submit a “Fifth-Year Interim Report” at the mid-point of the college’s 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation cycle. As a part of this process, SACSCOC conducts on-site reviews of any off-campus instructional sites at which the college has begun offering at least 50 percent of a degree or certificate program since the college’s last reaffirmation of accreditation. The committee’s visit was triggered by KC’s automotive technology program offerings at HHS.

The findings of this visiting committee represent a preliminary assessment of the institution at this time; final action on the report rests with the Commission on Colleges. The report will be considered for final action at the commission’s June 2015 meeting. If the committee’s report is approved by the commission in June, HHS will be an approved off-site location for KC, which will enable the college to offer more courses and programs at HHS.
