Palestine Church Named among State’s Most Endangered Places

PALESTINE — The Mount Vernon AME Church in Palestine has been announced as one of the eight historic structures included in Preservation Texas’ 2015 Most Endangered places list. “This occurred through concerted and tireless effort by members of the local community of Palestine and the dedicated staff and volunteers at Preservation Texas,” according to a news release from the city of Palestine. The historic church sanctuary is included on the National Register, is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and is a City of Palestine local landmark as well, according to the release.
