Suspect in Custody in Burglary and Copper Theft

Mcknight,JonathanTYLER — A Tyler man is in custody on charges related to burglary and copper theft. According to a news release, last Friday, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a call of a suspicious vehicle that was stuck in the mud behind a business near the intersection of Hwy 64 E. and Loop 124 (Old Henderson Hwy). It was determined by responding deputies that the truck had been used to steal several feet of copper wire and scrap metal from the business.

The suspect was captured on video. Upon review of the camera footage, detectives were able to recognize several identifying features and identified the suspect, according to the news release. On Monday, sheriff’s detectives secured two arrest warrants for Jonathan McKnight for the burglary and theft. Bonds totaling $600,000 ($300,000 for burglary of a building and $300,000 for theft of material – copper).
