thumb_Dan-FlynnAUSTIN — Are you still feeling the effect of springing forward? A state lawmaker from Van wants to get rid of Daylight Saving Time. A public hearing will be held this week in Austin on Representative Dan Flynn’s bill calling for the Lone Star State to take advantage of an exemption the federal government offers to states that want to opt out of the time change. Flynn says, “The more I started asking, the more I found out that everyone was just like me — it was a very frustrating time.”

Daylight Saving Time and the different time zones were laid out by Congress in 1918. Back then, every state set its own time for springing forward and falling back. That lasted until 1966, when Congress passed the Uniform Time Act. “They said it helps conserve energy,” adds Flynn. “I don’t think so. I don’t think there’s any proof of that.” Arizona and Hawaii do not participate in Daylight Saving Time.
