thumb_TISD_Logo_NewTYLER – Tyler ISD has received another award for its high level of financial transparency, according to information from the school district. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts recently awarded the district with its Platinum Leadership Circle Award. The award recognizes local governments across Texas that strive for a high level of financial transparency by opening their books to the public, providing clear, consistent pictures of spending and sharing information in a user friendly format, according to a TISD news release.

To achieve a Platinum rating, organizations are scored on the level of achievement of major and minor criteria set by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Major criteria include posting adopted budgets and budget elements, current annual financial reports, and current check/expense registers to a designated financial transparency webpage or menu. Minor criteria include posting information such as contact information for elected officials, budgets and annual reports for three fiscal years, monthly and quarterly summaries, credit card transactions, debt information, current tax rates, and more. The district scored 23 of 23 possible points given through the scoring system.

“It is extremely important to help taxpayers understand how their tax dollars are spent,” Tosha Bjork, chief financial officer, said. “We are honored to receive Platinum status this year and will continue to provide this level of transparency in the future.” For more information, go to http://www.tylerisd.org and click on the Financial Transparency tab in the left column.
