AUSTIN – Police Thursday offered more details on former Longview resident Katie Lanell Eager’s killing at a Cedar Park apartment, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend. That’s according to KETK and its affiliate KXAN. At a press conference Thursday morning, Cedar Park Police Chief Sean Mannix called the murder a “rage killing” made in passion. Mannix says Adam Richard Solis was involved in a heated argument with Eager before shooting her in a crime of passion, something police say is evident from the number of shots fired.
Mannix says Solis gave inconsistent statements after he called 911 to the apartment the two shared, and Mannix also says physical evidence ties Solis to the crime. It appears Eager was trying to escape the apartment when she was shot several times, police say. Mannix says while Solis shot and killed her on a Monday night, he didn’t call police until Tuesday at noon — when he allegedly returned to the apartment to make the call. Responding detectives found Eager shot to death. Solis, 31, was arrested around 9:30 Wednesday night in San Antonio at his parents’ home, according to Austin police. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond. Cedar Park Assistant Police Chief Mike Harmon said, “Based on early investigation, we have no reason to believe this was a random act of violence and no one else is in danger in Cedar Park.”
Alamo Drafthouse, where Eager worked, issued a statement that said, “We are all deeply saddened by this terrible tragedy involving a member of our Alamo family. Our thoughts are with Katie’s family and friends during this very difficult time.” The victim’s mother, Laura Rogers, said Katie grew up in Longview and graduated from Pine Tree High School where she was captain of the drill team. While working at an Austin theater, she attended the University of Texas. She graduated from U-T in 2012 and continued working at the theater.
