Authorities Release Recordings of Calls between Coignard, Police

LONGVIEW — Officials have released audio recordings of phone calls made to dispatch by a Longview teenager who was fatally shot in the Longview Police Department lobby. According to KETK, police released the audio recordings between Kristiana Coignard and police to the Longview News-Journal on Thursday. The transcript is as follows:
Police: “Dispatch.”
Coignard: “Hi, I’m in the lobby, and I need some help.”
Police: “OK, what kind of help do you need?”
Coignard then hangs up the phone.
According to the LNJ, dispatchers called the lobby phone back until Coignard answered.
Police: “Ma’am, did you just call saying that you need some assistance?”
Coignard: “Yes.”
Police: “What kind of assistance do you need?”
Coignard hung up the phone a second time.
Soon thereafter, a confrontation began in the lobby. During the incident, Coignard was shot by police after she allegedly indicated she had a gun and reportedly tried to pull a large butcher knife out of her waistband. Family members have said the 17-year-old suffered from mental illness. The investigation of the case continues.
