Man Arrested for Making a Terroristic Threat

Juan Garza-terroristic threatTYLER – Smith County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man accused of making a terroristic threat. Booked into the Smith County Jail was Juan Garza. His bond was set at $20,000. He was arrested late Wednesday morning, without incident, at a south Tyler apartment complex.

Wednesday morning, the sheriff’s office received information regarding a person threatening to shoot and kill another person at a business in the northwest part of the county. It was determined the suspect had recently purchased an assault weapon and had planned on carrying through with his threat. Smith County Detectives were called to assist and based on the initial investigation were successful in obtaining an arrest warrant for Garza. The warrant was issued by County Court at Law #1 Judge Jason Ellis.

He was arrested around 11:30 Wednesday morning and booked into the Smith County Jail. The investigation is continuing.
