GLADEWATER — A Kilgore man was being held Monday in the Gregg County Jail on claims that he pointed a gun at and robbed a 16-year-old boy in Gladewater earlier this month. KETK and the Longview News-Journal report Deedrick Shamon Pegues, 30, was being held on bonds totaling $41,000. He’s charged with aggravated robbery; resisting arrest, search or transport; and theft of property valued between $500 and $1,500.
Authorities say the case dates to Nov. 3, when the teen was pumping gas into his pickup at E-Z Mart in Gladewater and was reportedly approached by Pegues. Trouble reportedly ensued after the boy agreed to give Pegues a ride. A complaint alleges Pegues demanded the boy’s wallet and anything else he had. According to the complaint, the boy gave Pegues $23, all the money he had. But Pegues allegedly demanded more and threatened to kill the teen.
Officials say Pegues was caught with help from the teen and the clerk on duty when the boy was approached by Pegues. Pegues has been booked into the Gregg County Jail seven other times since 2004 for various charges, including a 2007 charge of robbery that was later reduced to theft from a person. He’s also allegedly shoplifted from the E-Z Mart in the past.
