Police: Racial Slur Leads to Attack

LONGVIEW — A Longview man is behind bars for allegedly hitting his girlfriend after she reportedly used a racial slur. According to KETK, judicial records indicate Devonte Ballard, 22, was arrested Thursday at a residence in the 1000 block of Oden Street near Timpson Park. The probable cause report states police saw Ballard’s girlfriend on the porch with a large, bloody gash on her swollen eye. According to police, Ballard’s girlfriend called him the slur and as a response, Ballard hit her. The medical staff on hand said there is a strong chance the woman’s eye socket is fractured. Ballard was booked into the Gregg County Jail on a single count of aggravated assault causing bodily injury. His bond has been set at $10,000.
