thumb_TISD_Logo_NewTYLER – As concerns continue over Ebola and enterovirus, Tyler ISD officials say the health and safety of all Tyler ISD students is a top priority for the district. With the recently reported cases of enterovirus and the Ebola virus in Dallas, Tyler ISD is addressing concerns regarding student travel for extracurricular activities to the Metroplex area. The district will keep an open line of communication with the schools in which Tyler ISD students interact during competitive events and will continue to monitor the situation, according to school officials. “We are acutely aware of the concerns parents may have about the potential threat of Ebola,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. “We want to reassure parents that we are in communication with the health officials on this matter. The best course of action at this time is for students to practice good hygiene habits.”

Tyler ISD is in contact with the Northeast Texas Public Health District (NET Health) to stay informed of pertinent information regarding the Dallas cases, according to Crawford. It is important to know that Ebola is not spread as easily as influenza and other more common illnesses and is not spread by someone who is not experiencing symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Crawford says the school district is also working with NETHealth to supply campus nurses with additional training on updated safety protocols and precautions as needed. The school district will continue to closely monitor the situation and will remain in contact with local health authorities, according to school officials. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s physician if they have questions or additional concerns.
