Assistant Jail Administrator Promoted

TYLER — Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith has promoted a new jail captain and assistant jail administrator. He issued a statement on the evening of Tuesday, September 30, 2014, affirming that effective October 1, 2014, Lieutenant Tobby Hughes is promoted to the rank of Captain and will also be classified as the Assistant Jail Administrator. “Captain Hughes will have my full support as we continue to move forward at the Smith County Jail,” says Smith.
Hughes has been with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office since 2001. He has served in many positions including detention officer, patrol officer, and detective. He has advanced through the leadership ranks as a patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, and jail lieutenant. Hughes is also a decorated officer with such awards as Supervisor of the Year (2010) and Sheriff’s Meritorious Service Award (2013).
