dennisdrive090414TYLER — Tyler police have secured an arrest warrant for a suspect who police say was driving a Cadillac and shot at an auto burglary victim in a recent incident. The suspect is identified as Damarian Paul Amie, a 20-year-old African-American man from Tyler. Amie is wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony. His bond was set at $100,000. One suspect was arrested shortly after the incident.

Just before 6:30 last Thursday morning, the Tyler Police Department received a call of an auto burglary in the 3200 block of Curtis. According to police, the caller indicated that they had observed two people in the neighborhood in a blue Cadillac. The passenger in the Cadillac got out of the vehicle and walked up to a pickup truck. The witness observed the Cadillac driving away. The passenger of the Cadillac broke out a window on the truck. As he was doing so, witnesses went to the pickup to contact the suspect. The suspect ran from the scene, and the witnesses followed.

Witnesses later lost sight of the suspect, but went back to their house, got in a car, and began to drive through the neighborhood. As they drove through the neighborhood they located the blue Cadillac, according to police. They began to follow the Cadillac. At one point the Cadillac got in behind the witnesses. In the area of Dennis Drive and Dinah Lane the operator of the Cadillac fired shots at the witnesses. Neither the witnesses nor the witnesses’ vehicle were struck by a bullet. An officer responding to the scene located a suspect who matched the description of the auto burglar. The suspect is Detavius Coats, 21, of Tyler. He was transported to the Smith County jail and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle. The case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the suspect or suspects involved in this crime is urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833).
