TxDotTYLER — A $4 million widening project on State Highway 64 will get under way this week in Smith County. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the project, which runs from just east of Chapel Hill to State Highway 135 in Arp, consists of adding a left turn lane at the intersection of County Road 229 (Big Oak Bay Road) as well as mile-long passing lanes at two different locations along the project. The contractor is Drewery Construction Company of Nacogdoches. Motorists should anticipate reduced speed limits and delays due to daytime lane closures.

SMITH COUNTY — Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to perform edge work on Farm Road 757 between Farm Road 2767 and Interstate Highway 20. A second crew is scheduled to perform ditch work in various locations. Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress. Motorists are encouraged to be prepared to reduce speed and merge in and around the work zones.

GREGG COUNTY — Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to conduct repairs on Farm Road 1844 from SP 502 to State Highway 300. The roadway will be reduced to one travel lane. Other work includes sealing the shoulders on State Highway 31 between Longview and Interstate Highway 20 on Monday. Expect the right lane of SH 31 to be closed with all traffic moved to the inside lane.

Contractors will be conducting the following work in Gregg County this week:
* SH 42 between SH 31 and I-20: The nighttime paving operation continues between the hours of 6:00pm and 6:00am. Next week the contractor will continue placing curb and gutter and concrete driveways. Lane closures will be in effect during night time operations only.
* Loop 281 at Farm Road 2087 Overpass: Work continues on construction of the detours, placing embankment and concrete paving. Be aware of the new traffic patterns and lowered speed limit through the project.
* Loop 281 Turn Lane at Pine Tree Stadium: The public should expect possible delays as the southbound outside lane will have daily lane closures during the daytime hours for striping operations and vegetative establishment.
* Farm Rad 2275 Bridge drill shafts are planned for next week, along with excavation, embankment and storm drain work. The work should not impact traffic.
* Final inspection work continues for the U.S. Highway 80 Widening from Fisher Road to State Highway 42, and on the Farm Road 349 project between U.S. Highway 259 and SH 31. No lane closures expected.

ANDERSON COUNTY — Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews are scheduled to conduct work on State Highway 294 between Farm Road 323 and Farm Road 228 as well as on U.S. Highway 287 S between Elkhart and the Houston County Line. Palestine crews also plan to perform edge work throughout the county. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and motorists are encouraged to be prepared to reduce speed and merge in and around the work zones.

ATHENS — Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to apply hot mix on Farm Road 1615 from State Highway 19 to the End of State Maintenance. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic.
