One Hospitalized after Accidental Shooting in Hotel Room

MINEOLA — An East Texas woman was hospitalized over the weekend after a gun accidentally fired in a Mineola hotel room. KETK reports that on Saturday at 2:00 a.m., Mineola officers were called to the Best Western Inn, at 100 Debby Lane, on reports of a gunshot victim. When police made it to the scene, they found Amanda Soape, 27, of Mineola, with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a Tyler hospital with what are termed non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators determined Soape and another woman had rented a room and were visited by two men. One of the men had a small handgun and was showing it to the women when it discharged, hitting Soape, according to police. No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
