Man Sentenced in 2013 Smith County Murder

TYLER — A Tylerite was sentenced to 25 years in jail Monday for the murder of another man in May 2013. KETK reports Alex Jones, 25, was booked into jail on May 22, 2013. He still faces about 24 years after being granted time served. Jones was charged with the crime after a shooting in the 100 block of Patton Lane, located west of Tyler near Highway 64. Responding Smith County deputies discovered the suspect had shot and killed Timothy Matthew Martin, 24, during a confrontation. Restitution will be handled after Jones is released from jail.
