Henderson County Woman Guilty of Embezzlement

thumb_Federalcourthouse2TYLER – A 54-year-old Murchison woman has pleaded guilty to federal violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales. Deborah Cornett pleaded guilty to an Information charging her with embezzlement by a bank employee Monday in Tyler before U.S. Magistrate Judge K. Nicole Mitchell. According to information presented in court, from November 2007 to May 2013, Cornett was an officer and employee of the First State Bank of Ben Wheeler. During that time, Cornett embezzled approximately $334,736.43 from bank payroll accounts, the bank Christmas Club account, certificates of deposit, and from fraudulently issued bank loans. Cornett faces up to 30 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
