Changes at East Texas Regional Airport
Posted/updated on: May 31, 2014 at 4:11 pmGREGG COUNTY — East Texas Regional Airport announces some upgrades. The new terminal baggage claim area has been opened with a new, larger baggage conveyor system. As part of the East Texas Regional Airport Renovation Project, the baggage claim area has been relocated to the north lobby, according to a news release. Also, the rental car counters have been relocated to the same area. Officials say this change provides more space and convenience for arriving passengers. They say this area adjoins the main terminal lobby and provides more floor space, reducing congestion for travelers, friends, and family.
Now when passengers arrive and enter the terminal, they simply make a right turn and are only a short distance from the new baggage claim area and the adjacent rental car counters. The new larger baggage conveyor system provides more space for arriving luggage and results in shorter wait times for travelers to claim their bags, according to the release. Officials add that vending machines will soon be located in the baggage claim lobby.
On another front, Terminal Circle has been reopened, with two lanes once again open. Additionally, the parking lane at the terminal building entrance is now covered by a canopy to protect travelers from rain while loading and unloading. Due to the ongoing terminal renovation project, the lane nearest the terminal building was closed for construction, materials storage, and equipment staging, according to officials. Traffic was reduced to one lane directly in front of the terminal building. A short section of roadway is still unavailable, but the majority of the terminal drive is once again open.
