Victims Identified after Chase Leads to Fatal Smith County Wreck

DPS-PatchBULLARD – Department of Public Safety officials released the names of one person who was killed and another who was severely injured in a high-speed Smith County chase over the weekend. KETK reports that according to DPS Trooper Jean Dark, the driver, Christopher Blake Lucas, 26, was killed Saturday evening in a chase off Farm Road 346 near County Road 188 in Bullard. A passenger, Travis Allen Holley, 24, is currently in serious condition at a local hospital.

The incident took place at around 7:30pm. According to troopers, that’s when they attempted to pull the pair over for a traffic signal violation and a chase ensued. Officials say the pursuit lasted for several minutes until a a set of spike strips popped three tires. The driver reportedly kept going and eventually wrecked out, flipping the vehicle multiple times. Authorities say they found 4 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle. Upon his release, Holley will be booked into the Smith County Jail on charges of evading arrest and possession of marijuana.
