TypeA-front editedSMITH COUNTY — Officials broke ground Wednesday on Saige Meadows, located off U.S. 69 near I-20 in Smith County. The project is termed the latest venture designed to bring quality, affordable housing options to East Texas working families while also providing jobs for sub-contractors and skilled laborers who will work on the project. “What is so wonderful about this community is that rents are held to an affordable level, which means families that cannot afford to pay market rate rents or buy their own homes yet will have a new, safe, clean, and comfortable place to live,” said Lindsey Wolfson, PR representative for Anthem Builders, which will oversee the project. “We hope to alleviate some of the financial burden to our residents so that they can save money, take care of their families and ultimately have an opportunity to own their own homes.”

Multiple levels of affordability are offered within the community to reach as many families as possible, according to a news release. Officials say Saige Meadows will be a place families will be proud to call home with a computer lab where children can work on their homework, as well as a fitness center and pool so that they can stay active and healthy. Also, the developer will commission a local artist to create an original sculpture, mosaic, or other form of art work. “Our continued commitment to Art in Public Places aims to provide a sense of community to each property. Quite often local children are provided the opportunity to participate in the artist’s creation, thereby creating a sense of pride and achievement within their neighborhood,” said Wolfson.

Features of the apartments include Energy‐Star appliances; a clubhouse with pool, sundeck and porches; a fitness center; a cyber lounge; a covered children’s playground; and barbecue and grilling stations. The community is located within Lindale ISD. Anthem Builders anticipates 10‐15 direct hires through Pinroc Construction for the Saige Meadows site. Additionally, job opportunities will be created indirectly through the subcontractor base, according to the news release.
