TYLER — Two suspects are in custody and some stolen property has been recovered in Smith County after a building was burglarized. At 10:30 Tuesday morning, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting that two men were burglarizing the structure on County Road 171. A neighbor confronted the individuals and they fled. The neighbor was able to provide a description of the men and their pickup. As deputies arrived to investigate, a second call was received from Tyler Iron and Metal, located on North Loop 323. An employee of the business was suspicious of two men as they attempted to sell scrap metal. When the employee requested identification, the men fled from the business.
Deputies began searching the area and soon located some of the stolen property, which the men had reportedly abandoned. The suspects were located on Highway 155 by Precinct 2 Constable Andy Dunklin. Smith County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded and the two suspects were arrested for burglary of a building. The property was returned to the owner. The two suspects were being interviewed Tuesday afternoon. Their names were withheld pending booking into the Smith County Jail.
