East Texans Cited in Synthetic Marijuana Crackdown Identified

LONGVIEW — The Longview Police Department on Thursday released the names of five people ticketed this past week for allegedly selling potpourri — a substance more commonly referred to and used as synthetic marijuana.
According to KETK and the Longview News-Journal, those ticketed were:
Kunegunda Marie Abbott — Scooby Snax, 1214 E. Marshall Ave.
Angel Manuel Uveda — Wildflowers Gift Shop, 1320 E. Marshall Ave.
Timothy Juliano — Wildflowers Gift Shop, 3808 Gilmer Road
Payne Allen Chaison — The Glass Dragon, 807 N. Fredonia St.
Joshua Taraus Toliver — The Glass Dragon, 904 Pine Tree Road
The citations were issued under Texas Penal Code Section 32.42, subsection B4, which deals with deceptive business practices and states, “A person commits an offense if in the course of business he intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence” sells “adulterated or mislabeled commodity.” Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said the statute gives law enforcement agencies room to penalize clerks who work at places such as the Glass Dragon, Wildflowers, and Scooby Snax, each of which have locations in Longview that reportedly sell the potpourri. The offense is a Class C misdemeanor, and violators face up to a $500 fine for the first offense. A second violation results in a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $4,000.
