TYLER – A 72-year-old Longview man has been convicted of federal drug trafficking charges. A jury found Jerry Don Castleberry guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking activity. The verdict followed a two day trial in Tyler before U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider.
Federal prosecutors say up until May 1, 2013, Castleberry conspired with other persons to acquire and distribute large quantities of methamphetamine from a source in Dallas to dealers throughout the Longview area. Evidence indicated that Castleberry was distributing methamphetamine manufactured in Mexico. Castleberry was also in possession of numerous firearms and ammunition, which are subject to forfeiture. Castleberry is a former member of the Bandidos motorcycle gang. As a result of his crime, Castleberry will also forfeit two Harley Davidson motorcycles and a Corvette Sting Ray. A federal grand jury returned an indictment on June 27, 2013, charging Castleberry and others with the federal violations. Castleberry faces a minimum of 15 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
