Human Remains Found in Van Zandt County

WILLS POINT — The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of partial human remains, found Friday night off County Road 3529 near Wills Point. They are believed to be the remains of John Richard Hannon, 59, who had been reported missing to the Van Zandt County Pct. 3 Constable’s Office in late February.

According to a news release, throughout Thursday evening the Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of Hannon’s property and was joined Friday in the search by the Air Land Emergency Resource Team, Dallas Search One canines, Canton Fire and Rescue, the Van Zandt Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Texas Rangers. Authorities located skeletal remains in nearby fields and a partial skull and jaw near a neighboring residence. The remains appear to be scattered as a result of animals and were transported to the University of North Texas Forensic Center for analysis and positive identification. The investigation is continuing.
